Diets for High Cholesterol

These days, too many different people, cholesterol is starting to become a major threat. The main reason for this is the fact that most people have a tendency to consume a lot more products that are heavily loaded in saturated fats, like poultry, whole milk diary products and egg yolks. In addition to this, the majority of people are also known to rely on all of the food chains in order to receive their daily diet or maybe they rely on processed foods, particularly if their schedule isn't too hectic in order to accommodate cooking at home. Within this article, we will discuss diets for high cholesterol.

So, in a situation, where you are one of the types of people that love to eat all of these types of foods, it is now time to reassess your entire diet and begin consuming a diet that is low in cholesterol. Diets for high cholesterol are a diet that has low counts of saturated fat, which in turn helps you to lower the cholesterol levels within the body and protect you from all of the different types of heart diseases.

All of the foods that should be within your diet are lean meats, fat-free dairy products, shellfish and fish, skinless poultry, as well as whole-grain foods. Green vegetables and fresh fruits, particularly when combines with the large amounts of monostaturates and olive oil, needs to be included as well because they are rich in minerals and vitamins that are really good for your body and that can reduce your actual risk for developing high cholesterol.

In addition to all of these, there are certain foods that contain plant sterols or plant stanols like salad dressing and cholesterol-lowering margarines, which can also be added into your diet in order to boost the LDL lowering power of the body. The foods that have high concentrations of saturated fats and cholesterol should be eating within moderation. If at all possible, these foods shouldn't even be included within your diet.

You should also avoid eating liver and other different organ meats, dairy products that are full-fat, egg yolks, fried foods and processed meats that are high in fat. When you take the time to participate in diets for high cholesterol, you will greatly reduce the levels of cholesterol within the body and you will decrease your overall chances of developing some type of heart disease, not to mention that you will be able to protect yourself in the future from heart attacks.

Even though diets for high cholesterol are going to be a really big help to you, it is only going to be this way if you take the time to observe and then follow all of these guidelines on a regular basis. You should always remember that you overall health is certainly in your hands.

The Magic of Grapes, Wine & Nuts

We’ve all heard that moderate wine consumption can be beneficial for heart health. While most of us interpret this as giving us permission to enjoy that glass of red wine with dinner and think nothing more of it, the real hero behind the scenes may be a naturally-occurring compound in that wine called resveratrol (RS). Resveratrol is found in grapes, grape products and other sources, such as ...

Q&A: Is Added Fiber Beneficial?

Q: I’m trying to follow a high-fiber diet and wondered if foods with added fiber have the same benefits as foods naturally high in fiber? A: As with most nutrition questions, the answer is: it depends. Fiber is a plant form of carbohydrate that our body’s digestive enzymes can’t break down. Since we can’t break it down, we can’t extract any energy from it, which means fiber has no calories by ...
